Maker simply acts as a platform that controls the trading of DAI and uses several incentives and a wide range of market mechanisms to stabilize DAI. Since everything can be checked on the transparent Ethereum blockchain, there is no need of stabilizing third parties or even auditors for verification purposes.
In essence, it is a smart contract platform that backs and stabilizes the value of DAI, through a system of Collateralized Debt Positions (CDPs), autonomous feedback mechanisms, and external actors (keepers, global settlers, oracles).
Maker enables anyone to leverage their Ethereum assets to generate DAI on the Maker ICO. Once generated, DAI can be used in the same manner as any other cryptocurrency: For performing transactions held as long term savings or used to create the components needed for a decentralized margin trading platform.
MKR has a ready product (DAI) and a clear, transparent system in place connecting the investor token with the product. The token holders govern the Maker system and their actions affect the price of the MKR.
